“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift – that’s why it’s called the present.” – Alice Morse Earle
I started this blog in 2012 as part of my recovery and adjustment to life after two surgeries to treat thyroid cancer. To combat bouts of depression during this period, I started a gratitude journal, and the practice helped me notice the gifts we can find on an ordinary day. After keeping the journal for a while, I realized that on my best days, the items I listed were as simple as sitting by a warm fire or having enough creamer for my coffee that morning.
This made me consider my cancer experience as a gift; I became attuned to finding joy in simple moments, which led to longer and longer periods of balance and peace in an otherwise busy, hectic life.
Daily Presents keeps me in the practice of looking for the spectacular in the ordinary, and allows me to find the gifts in life’s challenges. It has also become a wonderful creative outlet for me, which inspired the development of my “work” website into a blog as well. If you like what you read here, visit me at www.cadigancreative.com, and consider sharing your own stories about how you are creatively changing the world. When we live in the present, we become aware of how each of our words and actions have the potential to affect people beyond our wildest imaginings.
